(UPDATE) The First Descendant is finally back after a whole day of server outages and players are getting free
What you need to know
- The First Descendant is a brand new heist, MMORPG that has been making waves in the gaming community.
- However, on the second day of the official release, The First Descendant’s servers experienced many problems.
- Many players reported being unable to connect to the game at all, and others reported sporadic disconnections even when in the middle of missions.
- After numerous outages and two bouts of server maintenance, it looks like The First Descendant is finally back (and players are being compensated for the inconvenience).
Update, July 3, 2024 — Updated now that the second round of server maintenance for The First Descendant is complete.
The First Descendant has barely been playable for its entire second day, but the server issues are (hopefully) fully resolved now. Nexon has completed the second round of in-game server maintenance and The First Descendant is back online. I can confirm that you can log in without delays or lags.
As compensation for the hours off today, Nexon is giving all players who log in over the next five days a 3-day collection, 30% increased earnings for Gold, Kuiper Shard, Descendant XP, and Weapon XP. Players can redeem their compensation rewards from the mailbox at HQ and the boost will be activated immediately after redemption.
Hopefully day three goes much better for The First Descendant, who needs a strong win to ensure a healthy future. If you want to get all the details on the whole situation as it happened, our original article and updates continue directly below.
Server maintenance is complete and the game is now available. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the extended maintenance and have prepared compensation. For more details: https://t.co/BIpy88Rx2j■ End of maintenance 07/03 (Wed) 20:25 PDT…July 4, 2024
Update, July 3, 2024 — Updated with The First Descendant server issues popping up again.
If you’re reading this, you’re probably like me – still experiencing server issues with First Descendant. Nexon warned that there would be server instability for a while when the game went back online, but players (myself included) are experiencing more than just instability. The previous server connection issue that prevented players from even getting past the main menu is rearing its ugly head again.
Hopefully, it’s really just a temporary side effect of all the work Nexon is likely doing on The First Descendant’s servers today, and our hours of (involuntary) patience will result in healthier and more stable servers that move forward. For now, though, it looks like Day Two of The First Descendant will be dominated by outages and server issues, with players once again not allowed to set foot on Ingris.
Update, July 3, 2024 — Updated now that The First Descendant servers have started coming back online.
The Descendants have waited a long time to resume the war against the Vulgus, and it seems the gates are beginning to open once more. The First Descendant team at Nexon has confirmed that the servers are coming back online and players will be able to try to connect again, but there is a caveat.
According to Nexon, the issue with Microsoft’s Azure network is still not 100% resolved, so some players may still experience server instability when playing The First Descendant. We hope these issues are rare and resolved quickly. Either way, it looks like we’re finally on the other side of The First Descendant’s descent into server hell.
(Update) 07/03 (Wed) Game Connection Issues Notice# PDT 2024.07.03 (Wed) 12:05 – Server is now up. MS network is not fully recovered, you may experience unstable server statusJuly 3, 2024
Update, July 3, 2024 — Updated with a new announcement from The First Descendant team at Nexon.
Hours later, and we finally have our first proper update from The First Descendant team at Nexon. According to the update (which you can see below), the server outages still affecting the game were “primarily due” to an error with Microsoft’s network. The use of the word “mainly” suggests that there may be other issues that need to be resolved.
As for the rest of the update, it stands to reason that The First Descendant uses Microsoft Azure for its server infrastructure (along with hundreds of other games, companies, and products). Apparently, an external issue in this regard is contributing to The First Descendant’s server outage. The Nexon team is apparently waiting for this issue to be resolved by Microsoft.
It’s unclear if this is at all related to the Xbox Network server outage that occurred yesterday, which is linked directly below.
(Update) 07/03 (Wed) Game Connection Issues Notice# PDT 2024.07.03(Wed) 00:00 – We have found that the connection problem is mainly due to MS network error and we are waiting for MS to recover . We will make an announcement once it has been recovered.July 3, 2024
Update, July 3, 2024 — Updated with the latest development, which is the First Progeny going into a “maintenance mode”.
Just so you don’t believe I’ve abandoned you, here’s a brief update on The First Descendant’s server outage. For a while now, the game has been in an official maintenance mode initiated by the Nexon team, so you can’t even get to the main menu.
This offline maintenance mode is a deliberate move by Nexon and will likely continue until all support server issues are resolved, at which point the game will return online.
Update, July 3, 2024 — Updated with response from The First Descendant team.
Time for a quick update! Less than five minutes after this post was published, The First Descendant team at Nexon posted an update on Twitter (or X, whatever) acknowledging the ongoing server issues, so we’re officially not hallucinating the outage. It seems the team is investigating the cause and working on a fix – hopefully we won’t have to wait too long until the servers are back online.
We have noticed that game links are temporarily unavailable. ■ Details- Error connecting game We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this error. We are working immediately to identify the cause and resolve it. Once it is resolved, we will make a quick announcement. pic.twitter.com/Qk98RZUhFBJuly 3, 2024
It appeared, for a moment, that the First Descendant would avoid the almost inevitable launch day issues of many major multiplayer game releases, but the effect was simply delayed. We’re on day two of this co-op raider’s existence, and the servers have taken a sudden turn for the worse, leaving many Descendants completely unable to access Ingris.
To be precise, players starting the game for the first time are experiencing an endless and repeating error code when they first try to connect to the game’s servers and are unable to get past the main menu. Players who were in the game – even in the middle of a mission – experienced sudden disconnections, leaving them in the same places players enter for the first time today. It’s unclear if all players are affected, but the outage is visible on social media (and has also affected the Windows Central team).
For now, we’re either waiting for the server issues to resolve themselves or for The First Descendant team at Nexon to acknowledge the issues and begin investigating a fix. So far, neither has happened, and there is no workaround that we know of to overcome the server outage.
We’ll keep you posted on the situation, though, as we’re certainly interested in rejoining the battle as well. You can check out some of The First Descendant’s other known issues and issue bugs for more issues players are experiencing, but none are as severe as a full server outage.
Honestly, though, I fully expected the server issues to show up sooner rather than later, so as long as The First Descendant team works diligently and transparently to restore the game, it won’t diminish The First Descendant’s chances of become one of the best Xbox games. It’s disappointing, though, considering the Xbox Network just suffered an outage yesterday.
When The First Descendant comes back online, be sure to check out our guide to setting up cross-play and cross-save in The First Descendant so you can play with your friends. The servers may be down right now, but The First Descendant is now available on Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One, Windows PC via Steam, or PlayStation 5 or 4, and you can download free on Microsoft Store (Xbox).
